Hello everyone, I am Sarah Nehamen, the creator of peeka-bu. I believethat our perceptions of our selves create our reality. In a
world where attractive is defined for women, we have to work harder to find a healthy way to present ourselves.
Later, I recognized that I could love my body as it is and then enjoy my beauty regiments as a way to enhance my appearance. Practicing and teaching yoga have brought this into light. These holistic experiences showed me a new way of living within my body. Each human figure, including mine, is unique, made to look and function differently and have it’s own experience in the world. I learned how to see and listen to my body in a positive light and my life has never been the same.
Through talking to hundreds of women, men, and doctors of different modalities, I have learned that there are lots of political, social and personal taboos around seeing our human body. Often it brings up emotions like fear, shame and disgust. These feelings come from a variety of places such as media messages or unconscious beliefs or personal life experience.
It’s not about what we perceive as ‘normal’ that we should use as a standard. We don’t need to have consistently flawless skin, have the a figure that looks like a model, or obsess over body parts that we think should look a certain way. It’s about knowing exactly how to care for our bodies in the best way we can that allows us to be beautiful, healthful and alive.
